Here are some of the pictures that my father took shortly after moving down to Fuengirola together with my mother in the late 50´s. I have tried to take the same picture about 50 years later, so that you can compare and see the difference and see the development that has been ongoing on the Spanish south coast, Costa del Sol. I hope you enjoy the photos.
This photo is taken on the breach in front of Hotel La Concha, Los Boliches, Fuengirola. I believe it is taken 1964. My mother is the women standing, my father is the one with sun-glasses and I am the boy in the middle with a sun-hat. The other ones are most probably guests at the hotel.
The same beach and the same camera position but 48 years later. My regards to the nice family that was on the beach at this day, and that allowed me to take the picture with them posing at the same place as my own family spent a morning 48 years ago.
This photo is taken in the late 50´s or beginning of the 60´s. The beach in front of Hotel La Concha, Los Boliches, Fuengirola. In the center of the picture you can see the Torreblanca tower, before the bulldozer passed by…
La Concha beach 2012. The Torreblanca tower is gone since long time ago (late 60´s). It should have been standing to the right of the lonely tree in the center of the picture.
The beach in front of Hotel La Concha in Los Boliches, Fuengirola. The hotel is still under construction so it has to be 1959 or 1960. The Osborne-bull is still not on the hill behind the hotel. Have a look at the beach with all the stones.
Playa La Concha 2012. The beach has been cleaned.
A picture says more than thousand words. Here are two pictures that say it all. From playa La Concha looking towards Fuengirola centre. You can see the Sohail castle on the hill.
Much has been gained with the tourism and the urbanization of the coast. But much is also gone forever.
